Oh heck no, you'll just blend in with the rest of the kids.
When in doubt, do a water change.

nitrate update. The last time I made a W/C on this tank was 3-15 - 11 days ago. Trates were 30ppm at that point so I did 60% w/C
    Tested 3-21 - trates were 10ppm. NO w/C
Tested today 3-25 - trates are between 10 - 20 ppm. really hard to tell.
So that's really good IMO for 11 days when I normally change water weekly.
Will do a 30% W/C today because I want to give them fresh water.
So I'm very satisfied with how this tank is doing.

I'd have a hard time going more than 7 days without doing a regular water change. I think it's that important to the health of the fish. Your 30 gallon is doing great. Oh wait, your 30 gallon is really a 29, right?
When in doubt, do a water change.

    Great news, Cindy!

@ Taurus: I hear you, I feel guilty the few times I've had to stretch it to 8 days

Yes - it's really a 29 (which I discovered after I started all this so I'm just leaving as is for the sake of confusion.)
I never go more than a week w/o a W/C either but I'm experimenting with this tank - NOT because I plan to change my weekly W/C schedule but to see if it can sustain, upon occasion, 2 weeks w/o a change. I have an 18 day trip coming up in May. There will be no one to change the water. I want to feel comfortable that my fish aren't going to be subjected to high nitrate levels while I'm gone.
So that's what all this experimenting is about.
Occasionally, I do have to leave for more than 1 week at a time and I need to figure something out.
There is no one within 30 miles of me who has an aquarium (that I know about). So I'm looking for solutions to the occasional 2 week absense :o(

Okay - I KNOW they most likely aren't going to die if the nitrates get above 40 but I'd like to avoid the stress on them if possible.

The most important thing to fish is clean water. Check my siggy.
When in doubt, do a water change.

    Hey Cindy,

Have you considered water evaporation over the 18 days you're out? I think I lose about 1/4-1/2" of water every week. Keep that in mind, because the water/nutrients in your tank will become concentrated.

Just wanted to add some more chaos to your day. lol Sorry!

When in doubt, ask yourself... W.W.L.S (What would Lee Say)?

Have a fish problem? Fill out and post this completed questionnaire in the General Aquarium Forum, when you start a new thread.

Actually I had thought about that. In addition to having the hubby feed every other day, and add some prime every other day after about day 11, I'll have him top off the tank when need be as long as it's the same day he doses prime.
Trying to get all my bases covered. Sure do appreciate all the input. if you think of anything else, be sure to mention it.
