Default Platy with Drops. Need help urgently!

I have a lone female platy in a 5 gallon aquarium that appears to have dropsy. This is my first time dealing with the disease, and I am not quite sure what to do. I received her from an acquaintance who had a few platies in his tank that bred. She is much to small to live in my main 150 gallon aquarium with the big fish, so I keep her in a 5 gallon aquarium by herself. She is about 8 months old at this point, and she seemed healthy up until this now; good appetite, very active, ect. I did a 60% water change about a week and a half ago, and she wasn't showing any signs of distress that I could see until today. It is winter where I live right now, and about 3 weeks ago the power went out in our home. It killed off my electric catfish, but I don't know if this is related. I've heard many people say that dropsy is lethal, but others have said that it can be treated with antibacterial medications or salt. I really have no idea what I should do. I watched my catfish suffer for 5 days after the power outage, and I really don't want my platie to go through the same thing. But I also don't want to just let her die if their's something I can do. Please help!

sorry for the fish. I've used kanamycin with some success against dropsy, so that might be something to try.
