    Default Tropiquarium in NJ

So I went to Tropiquarium in Long Branch(I think that's the town it was in), NJ and let me tell you, that place was AMAZING. They had numerous, enormous display tanks full of gorgeous fish that were suitable to the tank. Their saltwater display tanks were amazing and beautiful and stocked with some very large, gorgeous species. Their freshwater display was amazing and had many species of full grown rainbowfish, and even some enormous denison barbs. The even had a pond with a koi that was well over 3 ft in length! Their variety of fish was absolutely amazing. They had a large section of salt water fish, a huge section for cichlids(South American and African), a section for goldfish, and a freshwater section with a huge variety of fish. They had oddball fish such as clown knife fish, jack dempseys(which didn't look deformed in the slightest), and even fish that you wouldn't normally see, such as Beckford's Pencilfish(which I now want to purchase).

Everyone who gets the chance should definitely go. It was a gorgeous store and almost immediately after entering there was someone there to see if we needed help with anything. It was an amazing place with a huge variety of very healthy looking fish. They're very wise in the stocking of their display tanks and even though I wasn't there long I didn't see a single dead or unhealthy fish in the tanks of fish for sale.

Its definitely nice to have such a great place nearby. I just read more about it online and its a family owned store that breeds a lot of their fish and purchases their fish from non-commercial suppliers. Which means their fish aren't the standard in-bred abominations you'd see at a Petco or Petsmart. I'm going back tomorrow to look around more and maybe buy some supplies. I've been thinking of rehoming my Panda Cories, as my GBR is harassing them and I really can't afford to set up another tank for them, so I may ask them about whether or not they'll take my Cories and if they'll give me store credit. I'm still on the fence on whether or not I want to rehome them, I'd love to keep them as they are one of my favorite fish but I don't know if I want to pressure my parents for the money when its so close to my birthday, spring, and my graduation.

XD It depends on what I plan on doing. I don't want to impulse buy, which I almost did today. I want to establish my tanks more and get them more to my liking. I have a bunch of equipment I'll be asking my parents to purchase for me this friday when they get paid. Hopefully the fish I was interested in are in stock when I do go to purchase. I was thinking of getting a school of Beckford's Pencilfish, or another similar species, for my 20 gallon and maybe some other suitable species that catches my eye. A lot of the fish I saw today, such as Bolivian Rams, are fish that I've never seen in person so I'm mostly going back tomorrow just to look around more and see more species that I haven't had the chance to look at in person yet.

Tropiquarium looks like a great Aquarium store. +1 on Beckfords, they are probably the hadiest of the pencils

I'm really excited to go back today. Their Beckford's were pretty expensive, I think they were $3.99 each. Either way I'd still be saving money and time if I bought them from the store rather than online, as the shipping can be quite expensive. I emailed them last night asking whether or not they took in fish and if they'd give store credit for my fish. I'd personally love to keep my cories but the only way would be to set up another tank and I definitely don't want to set up a third tank when I'm not even sure where I'll be living when I graduate from high school in June.

Went back to Tropiquarium today. Had to rush in with my cories as the fish bag I swiped from Petco starting leaking, really even their bags are shit-quality, and they immediately started acclimating them. It was obviously a shipment day for them as they had rows of buckets of fish, in front of the tanks, drip acclimating. Everyone was very nice and knowledgeable. The woman I was talking to over email, Tracy, gave me a really good deal and gave me 6 Beckford's Pencilfish for free in exchange for my 6 cories. I then paid for 4 more pencils to get a school of 10. They have a buy "one get one half off" fish sale for all of their fish so instead of those 4 pencils costing me around $16 they only cost me $12 including tax. It really is a great store. Anyone who has the chance to go should definitely make the trip. They have a huge selection of very healthy fish which are cared for by very intelligent and kind staff. Definitely going to be my go-to lfs.
