    Default Question on lights/no lights

I have done a bit of searching here, and I still have a question...

When it comes to the number of hours your tank light is on...Can you have 2 periods of light during the day? Say, 2 hours in the am and again in the late afternoon for say 4 hours? My tank lights are off around 8-9pm. I am gone from 6:30-4:00 each weekday. I have no timer and don't anticipate getting one for a while (its lower on my list).

The 10ga tank sits adjacent to a window that gets direct light in the later part of the afternoon, at a time when I can close the blinds if they're open.
    Thanks

Yes, some people do 4 and 4, I highly recommend a digital timer, with my fish I know they learn a set system (internal clock) because my rainbows always get brighter right after the lights come on. But if the lights get delayed they still color up on the same time

Yes, that is doable. Fish do not seem to mind. Not only can it allow the lights to be on during the times when we're home, a siesta period is even supposed to help reduce algae.

I got mine from a local hardware store, was like $10, but allows me to adjust it on and off every 15 minutes if I wanted to. Lots of options, I love the digital over the mechanical, so much more functional
