I have a well established 39 gal tall with 4 emerald corys, one agazizi cory, 4 mixed neon/cardinal tetras, 4 lamp eye tetras and 4 silver hatchets. im going to ad a few more hatchets to enlarge the school. I want something just a little bigger as a more center piece fish. I have had dwarf gouramis in the past and love them bit they both succum to the genera specific diesease they are prone to (forget specific name). Any thoughts?

Maybe up the numbers of the other fish groups?
They would be happier in larger groups and would behave more naturally which would make the tank more impressive.

+ to what aiden said. I'd up the neons to 20. they'd look great.
also up the other tetras to a minimum school of 6.
Even your emerald cories should be in school with a min. of 6.

I've had good luck with DW gouramis but I know they can be hit and miss. If you like them, try another one. look the fish over good for fungus, ich and any odd movements and hopefully, you'll be okay.

Would 20 neons be ok in my tank, that wouldnt be overstocked with my current fish? I did love all the gouramis I had with the exception of a full size gold gourami that like to pick on everyone and everything. He was a beautiful fish though just a nasty temper. The dwarfs I have had have been awesome and I prefer their colors anyways. Anybody ever keep a chocolate gourami? liking the looks of those.

Yes you could put 20 Neons in there with no problems, their bio-load is very small.

From what I understand chocolate gourami are pretty delicate. I'd love to add a pearl to my tank, but I've got no room

with those species that already exist in your tank, i agree, just up the school numbers of what you already have.
