  1. Default Taking 1 filter out of the tank.

Basically I have had 2 internal filters in my 120litre. 1 Interpet and 1 tetratec. Just wanted to ask. Once my tank is cycled, if I take out 1 of the filters then would it affect the whole bacteria system?

It would essentially cut your biological filtration in half. If you are cycling the tank with ammonia then you would just need to stock the tank lightly. If you are cycling with fish you will have to watch the ammonia and nitrite until the bacteria catches back up to the bio-load of the current fish.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

If you remove half the filtration, you remove half the bacteria, as mommy1 said. You would then have to continue dosing until the single filter was able to process the same amount of ammonia that the two filters did. Or, you could lightly stock the two tanks, and slowly increase the fish population until you were fully stocked.

The Interpet has ceramic rings and the tetratec only has sponge. The problem is the Interpet is better but it's too noisy. The tetratec is quite. Do you think the tetratec would be good enough with out the ceramic rings

The ceramic rings is where most of the bacteria is growing so you would want to keep the filter that has the rings. Can you get a canister filter where you live? If you can, you can put the ceramic rings from the Interpet and the sponge from theTetratec into the canister filter and not lose any bacteria, and canister filters are very quiet.

By canister do you mean external filter. I can get one from the Internet.

there are two types of external filter - Hang on Back and canister. HOB filters hang on the outside of the tank, and canisters can sit below and have hoses that run to the tank. As they are more enclosed, and can be put in a cabinet, canisters are almost completely silent. A good Aquaclear hang on the back filter, is quiet but not silent.
Canisters are generally beleived to be the best for housing bacteria - your ceramic rings. HOBs are good as well, but don't have the capacity that canisters do.

Sorry, I thought you were removing one of the filters to put on another tank, it didn't occur to me you might be taking it off because of noise.

A canister filter is one that sits below the tank, in a cabinet or on the floor. It connects to the tank with 2 hoses.
