I'm sure you've checked the water params after all of this happened...what kind of heater did you end up getting?...did you "acclimate" it?...what temp was it set at?

What about the internal filter, what all was in it as far as pads/sponges/media goes?

In hindsight, with a nano tank, I'm beginning to wonder if it had to be cycled at all...3 little shrimp aren't going to produce enough ammonia to harm themselves, at least for quite a while

Thanks guys, water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 ites and ates. No definitely would never use soap for any fish items. I cleaned it with vinegar then rinsed a ton before filling it for use.

The filter contains sponge and biomax. I took a bit of sponge and some biomax from my 10g to get this one going. My 10 has perfect params.

The heater is a tetra one, smaller version of the one on my 10g. I did acclimate it and I have a thermometer in there as well and i didn't put the shrimp in till the temp was a steady 78 which is the same temp as my 10... These heaters are pre set. The only real difference in this tank is the fluval strata substrate and my 10 has pfs.
    Sigh.

how did you wash those plants, could there have been any copper issues for them treating for snails?

I doubt it. Any snails I have came from plants from my LFS. I washed them just under tap water. Added dechlor to the tank after adding plants.

No what I ment was - some sellers of plants treat them with a copper based solution to help kill snails and wonder if that leeched into the tank affecting the shrimp (also inverts like snails)

Oh you mean before they came to my LFS? I guess that's always a possibility. I do have the same plants in my 10g though and the amanos in there seem fine so far.

where they bought separately though? I think there is also an API copper test kit out there but not sure if you would want to swing for it on a hunch

Plants were all from the same bunch. The wisteria and crypt came from my 10g, the frogbit and sessiflora I bought and put some in my 10 and some in this tank. Just watched an Amano in my 10 happily munching away on algae on a wisteria leaf. Maybe it was just stress from being netted and moved?
I might try other shrimp in there... Not sure what kind. Or maybe a betta.
Speaking of I was looking for breeders and there are none anywhere near me, and shipping for one is 35 bucks minimum. I'm going to talk to the guy at my lfs about their bettas... where they come from, if the treat them for any diseases... Etc. I don't know what I'll do right now but I'm adding a drop of ammonia daily... is that smart?
