Nice set up. With how great your 10 gal looks, I can't wait to see what you do with the new tank.
75 gal - Smudge Spot Cories, Silvertip & Pristella Tetras, Scissortail & Red Tail Rasboras, Pearl Gourami, Black Kuhli Loaches, Whiptail Cats, Wild Caught BNP
Dual 29 gals - Diamond Tetras. Harlequin Rasboras, Bloodfin Tetras
    10 Gal - Mr. Betta's Fishy Paradise

Ammonia is down to .25ppm this morning so progress is being made in the cycle. I added a sponge filter and put that in the tank to cycle as well. I figure the Rena on there is good for 30 gallons and the sponge is good for about 10g so that gives me the filtration I want... And gives me another little filter to have on hand if I set up a qt or whatever.

I just can't see ever using it... At least not any time soon. It's another hydro cost when running it and according to research it kills good and bad bacteria so I'm just not sold on them being really beneficial.

I think they are handy, especialy when setting up a new aquarium. Your more likely to see an algea bloom or diatoms in the beginning or when making some kind of major change to an existing aquarium. Also, most BB is in oyur filter or substrate, not in your water colm.

BUT, I am no exspert, but they have been useful for me. But after my aquariums are up and running for a while, I have not needed them.

Thought I'd add a little update. Nothing exciting with this tank yet as we'll wait till we have some extra cash before getting decor and fish. It could very well be cycled by now but I haven't checked, I just keep adding ammonia daily to feed the bb. I'm in no hurry, but this tank I'm going to work on with my Hubby and I'm going to give him the reins on it. We'll see what he comes up with.
