  1. Default Does a single bolivian ram need a cave?

I just purchased a single bolivian ram (a female I think) and was just wondering if I should still purchase a cave for her even though she wont be having fry? Also I have a pair of Cockatoo Cichlids in the tank too if that makes a difference (not a mated pair).

29 Gallon: Veiltail Betta, White Cloud Minnows, Neon Tetras, Honey Gourami, Rummy Nose Tetra, Bolivian Ram, African Dwarf Frogs, Amano Shrimp

    6.4 Gallon: Halfmoon Betta

Yes, she would appreciate some place to claim as her own.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Ok thanks ive ordered a coconut shell from ebay, hopefully she'll like it. Unfortunately she has had to go in the family 65 gallon as my Apistogramma just wouldn't leave her alone, both male and female were chasing her around, no idea why as they dont bother any of my other fish.

My answer here would be no. Rams do not need caves in them same way as apistos and kribs do. The important thing with rams is that there is enough hiding places for them to feel calm and safe. It can however just as easy be dense plantation as it can be caves. Caves just happens to be an easy way to create hiding places,
Do as I say. Not as I do.

+ 1 to william. all the rams I've kept prefer to be in the open, and only take refuge in plants when stressed. if given the choice between dense
plant growth and caves, mine never entered the caves...
