The tank was originally set up as a crystal shrimp only tank and I spent a lot of time and effort to get them to breed but after 5 months I have had no success. That's why I decided to add fish to the tank, since, as I'm sure you can imagine, 8 shrimp in a 15 gallon tank can get quite boring.

I will always be concerned for the shrimps in the tank but I hope that I have provided enough safe places for them. Knowing my luck though, the shrimp will finally breed now there are fish in the tank. I appreciate that if this were to happen, the vast majority of the shrimplets won't survive. If this were to happen, I would likely set up another tank for the shrimp/ rehome them.

Strange that they didn't need for you. I have three black versions of crystals in my tank,I believe they are 1 female and 2 males. The female was berried once but dropped the eggs, most likely because they are young and she's inexperienced. In hoping they'll produce some babies at some point.

They can be quite tricky to breed at the best of times. It doesn't help me that I currently only have one female to 7 males.

My GBR male is really starting to show some nice colours with quite vibrant shades of blue.

Before I go and hopefully get two females, has anyone got a detailed description/ photo on how to tell the difference between males and females?

All I've seen so far is that females has slightly shorter fins and less colours which isn't that helpful.
