Baby Yellow Cichlids
My name is Emily, I am new (see my post in "introductions") and have a question about my fish. My yellow cichlid fish was holding eggs in her mouth, and not knowing if she would spit them out or not, I "stripped" them out of her mouth, and we became the fish owners of 6 baby cichlid fish. We have kept them in a smaller, hospital tank seperate from mom and other big cichlids so they didn't get eaten (tank houses 6 convict cichlids and 5 other assorted cichlids which I was afraid would eat them)
That was a few months ago, and they are getting bigger now. (close to 1" maybe) At what point is it okay to put them back into the tank with the adult cichlids? Or is it a matter of size? Is it just a rule that anything smaller than them will get eaten, and I better not try it until they are just as big, or can I safely put them back into the tank when they reach 2 or 3"?
any suggestions are appreciated, since I need to figure out if they are going to be housed in the 5 gallon for a longer or shorter period. Thanks!

If they are small enough to fit in the other fishes mouthes than they can be eaten.
