Thread: Fish I.D

  1. Default Fish I.D

Hi, I bought 2 rams and 10 harlequins for my tank but when I got home I discovered I had 9 harlequins and a fish I don't know the identification of.

Its hard to see in the picture but at the end of the "top middle" fin and "bottom middle" fin there is a small black coloured extension that curves futher back.

That's a hard one, kind of looks like another Rasbora, but kind of has a Rainbowfish look to it. Let me do some research and I'll get back to you.

Thank you. It seems to be doing ok and is occasionally schooling with the harlequins. I'll try and get a better close up.

I can't get a focused close up of it but I have found species of fish that look very similar and may help you.

It looks very similar to this in regards to body shape and colouration: http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/oryzias-asinua/

And then the extended fins look similar to this in how it curves but it isn't as prominent: http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species...cyanodorsalis/

Good research on you own, I thought of both those species too.

It looks like a mixture between the two but I'm not sure. It appears to be nice and peaceful and seems perfectly happy hanging around with the harlequins and isn't shy around the rams either. I would like to know if my water parameters are ok for it.

Does it have a scissor tail or a roundy tail, and is there any coloration on the tail? I can't tell if I am seeing red on the fish or from the wood on its tail.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
