  1. Default Guppies with danios?

    0 Not allowed!
I have a fairly newly cycled 40g FW tank that has a school of LF zebra danios in it plus some shrimp.

The next school I plan to add is some harlequin rasboras and lastly some corys.

I would really like to have a couple male guppies for some color, and also just because they sound so interesting!

Do you think a few guppies would do okay in this community tank? From what I've read it looks like they should, but figured I'd better ask folks with hands-on experience.

And then the next question would be, is it okay to add the guppies at the same time I add the harleys? I have to get my fish mail order and so I try to keep it as economical as possible.

    Thanks!
    Attitude is everything.

40 gallon FW tank: Black sand substrate, lots of live plants,
10 long-finned zebra danios, 11 neon tetras, 6 platys, 6 julli corys, cherry shrimp and 6 nerite snails.

As long as it is just 2 males, I think they would be fine with the other fish...we have 2 males in a platy tank, with a male betta, too, and have had no problems whatsoever

Are your guppies both of the same variety (or is it species)? I'd like to get two with different coloration but haven't seen any comments about whether that is an issue. My first assumption would be as long as I'm not breeding them it wouldn't matter, but for all I know red ones don't get along with blue ones...

The only problem I think you could conceivably run into is the fact that Danios swim very fast and guppies do not. They may put some stress on the guppies because of this and they typically like to inhabit the same reaches of the tank, generally speaking.

Yeah, I don't know either, different colors/varieties may be fine together. I guess I need to do some more research!

Do post pics of your guppies....I would love to be able to TAKE pics of fish, but my current point-and-shoot isn't cutting it so I'm indulging in another DSLR soon. I can take pictures of shrimp, lol...

These danios are boisterous and curious and hungry, go go go....they don't really school (much to my surprise), they're just kind of ranging all over. I'm really enjoying them, but now have to find out who's compatible to add some color.

I had gotten the impression that guppies were fairly laid back which is why I wondered about them in a community tank.

No worries about the photos, will be around whenever you get to it.

Wow, gorgeous color on those guppies!! This is your daughter's tank, right? Very cool.

I look at those fan-tails and can just see the danios getting excited...but I've found a few people who said that as long as the danios are in a large enough school they stick to poking at each other and generally leave everybody else alone. And I'm sure it would help to get guppies close to the danios size.

Great video, mind if I ask what you used to shoot that with?
