    Default gourami breeding question

Does anyone here on the AC have experience breeding any gouramis?
do they tend to "get things right" the first time round or does it take a while for them to get courtship right?

a few months back I had the fortune to find honey gouramis for sale. I had been trying for around a year to find more gouramis
to join my lone male. the 2 males and 4 females get along well in a 65 gallon planted. The young(new) male is constantly courting the
females, but has not even built a bubblenest, nor does he seem to be able to whenever he tries. the females are interested and follow him, but
since he does not have a nest he just leads them indiscriminately to any small dark corner he sees, whereupon the females realize he doesn't have a nest, roll their eyes and swim away.
So, do you think he'll improve eventually or does he have some behavioral problem and I should be looking for another male (the old male is beyond breeding age)?

Its very rare they get it right the first time. They also need certain things to be able to house the bubble nest. If there is much surgace agitation at all you will find them really hating life... Usually if you have large leaf anubias or some clay pots mid tank height you will find them using that instead of a traditional surface/corner bubble nest.

heh, surface agitation and lack of surface cover really shouldn't be problems with my tank...
Oh well, if they aren't supposed to get it right the first time around, I'm reassured. I guess I'll just wait and see.
