  1. Default Could I add a few more Cardinals to my tank?

I have 6 Cardinals in my 37 gallon aquarium, Along with 1 angel, 2 blue rams, 10 cherry barbs, and a Bristlenose pleco. My school of Cardinals looks really small and weak, and they kind of stay low to the bottom of the tank like they're scared of my other fish. My other fish are very calm and don't pick on them. My question is if I was to
put 4 to 6 more in would it overstock over my aquarium? Or cause any other trouble?

From what I understand, when your angel gets bigger its going to eat those cardinals.

They are probably acting shy because they know that...basically there is a predator in there with them.

Assuming you have proper filtration (2x the gallon)....

They have a small bioload, so it would probably be fine...add 2-3 at a time and check your levels after a few days to see if your filtration can keep up.

I completely forgot about that.... I had the Cardinals before the angel and was going to get 6 more but then decided not to because they might become food after awhile. The angel is small so I don't think that's why they're staying towards the middle/bottom. I think it's because they're school is small. Thanks for the advice!

I do have proper filtration btw. Meant to include that. Brand new filter too! Best one I've ever had!

Cardinals get bigger than people think, sometimes over 2" but most of the time stay around that. I think if you buy at least 6 more Cardinals you will be fine as long as you don't buy them to small.

That was kind of my thought too. The Angelfish is half (US) dollar size comparison. So if I bought 6 now, they would be 2"+ by the time the angel is of size to eat something that big. When people say Cardinals are food to angels, I think that comes from ppl putting young Cardinals in with adult Angelfish.

Your right on with that statement, you put a .75" Cardinal in a tank with full grown Angels=snack time.

Adding 6-8 will bring out some of thier shyness. Also do you have floating plants to subdue the lighting? Cardinals do not like alot of light, if you don't this will also help bring them out.

Here's a good video from you tube that shows them interacting with each other.
