Quarantine tank for saltwater
Ok another question as I compile my list of equipment to buy. I have a 10g tank, heater and, hob filter. Now for fresh water I would just drop in a sponge or other bio containing media when I needed it. How do you handle this for a saltwater tank? A chunk of live rock?

If you use live rock, you should never put that live rock back in your display tank again, and it really would be a one time use as you would need to clean it very well removing all the bacteria once you are finished with it before you could use it again in a QT set-up. I have some rock I use in my QT tank, but it's not live rock and only there to create a more natural environment for the fish so they are less stressed in QT. I scrub it like there's no tomorrow after each use.
I have a sponge filter I run in the first compartment of one of my sumps. When I need it, I just move it into my QT tank. I will always replace the sponges with new ones once I am done with the QT set-up.
This approach seams to work very well for meIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
