    Hi,

I recently gave my community fish to a friend of mine to change it to a cichlid tank. Hope you will like it.

Not bad. I like the choice in rocks and the background, but I would have gone with a more natural substrate (tan/white or black sand).

Agree with Kevin, a dark brown or black substrate would look more natural with the rocks and background

I like it...the substrate could be more natural, but if you don't want to change it, consider avoiding blue cichlids, as they might blend in.

I recently switched from a 20 gallon to 37g and used the same water and my fish have been actually doing really well for almost a month now. Someone may have a good reason not to but it worked fine for me.
37g Freshwater 1 Angelfish, 1 Blue Rams, 10 Cherry Barbs, 6 Cardinals, 1 Bristlenose Pleco.
Live Plants Java Fern, Anubias Nana, Amazon Sword, Java moss, and Corkscrew Vallisneria.

While there is nothing wrong with reusing your water (assuming your water quality is good), it is always best to use a much fresh clean water as possible. The better your water is, the better it will be for your fish.

There is no real benefit to reusing old water as all the bacteria that you will need to process fish wast will be in your filter media and (to a less extent) on all other surfaces within your aquarium
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Thanks for your help, I took your advice! I didn't use sand because the store didn't have any dark sand at the moment, but I liked this gravel as well, it's dark and looks more natural.
