Thread: New tank algae

  1. Default New tank algae

I have had a 13 gallon tank for about 3 weeks now and I am cycling with fish. How long until I will see some algae build up? Should I get a oto?

I'm not sure I understand why you're asking this question. Do you expect an algae bloom, due to your cycling the tank? Or do you want to grow algae? Are you trying to? Do you only want an Oto to get rid of algae?

Just curious how long until I will see some, im a newcomer and not sure when to expect it or how much. Does it need to be cleaned immediatly or some build up healthy for a tank? Sorry if its a stupid question but I dont really know anything about algae

Algae only appears in your tank if your water conditions are out of balance. If your tank is properly lit, with no excess nutrients, you may never see algae.

In any case, do not get an oto, or any algae eater, until you actually see algae. Otos need an established supply of algae in order to survive if thats all they have to eat.
