We never had cats until these two showed up at our door and adopted us. Now, 8 years later, can't imagine life without them. They were both little undernourished, mangy curs. I took them to the vet, had them neutered (and bathed) got them their shots and they've been healthy and hardy ever since - well, except for Sly's teeth. We had to have several pulled until finally, he was down to 1. We called him Fang. Now we call him Gummer LOL.

That's so cool that you had (have) show cats. Sly and Buddy were just strays, neither would win any beauty contests but they are gorgeous in our eyes :o)
And they have their claws too because they go in and out through our doggie door and we want them to be able to protect themselves if necessary. Thank goodness, they let me use the nail clippers on their front paws because sometimes Buddy's "massages" get a little painful :o)

You would be surprised who wins at the cat shows! I showed my household pets (mixed breeds) and my purebred lilac point Siamese in TICA - The International Cat Association for 10 years.

This was my girl, Lucky Lady, who I adopted in August of 2000 at 20 yrs of age. I showed her in the 2002-2003 show season (May to April) at the age of 23 yrs and she was 9th Best Household Pet Adult in the Great Lakes Region. In the household pet class we get to tell the cat's story - Lady would stand on my shoulder, facing backward and watch the audience while I told her tale (of course, I had to face away from the audience. This is also how we walked around the show hall together). The judges allowed me a little extra time so I could extol the virtues of adopting an elderly cat. I hope she helped to get a few older cats into their forever homes. She was solid black with a shiny patent leather coat. She came to me in fabulous shape, with no teeth (a real gummer) and a crumpled ear, possibly from a severe ear mite infestation at some time. Because of her crumpled ear, her good ear did not stand up, but stuck out from the side of her head like the wing of an airplane. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2006 at 26 yrs of age (you're not supposed to have a cat you adopt at 20 for 6 more years!). She was a unique purrrsonality and I was privileged to have her as a friend and companion.

These photos were taken in June of 2002, at the beginning of her show career. In the second one, she was obviously not happy with the photographer!

Awe. That's a great story! And she was a beauty. I hope we keep our boys healthy for 26 years! Until these two showed up at our door, I had no idea how amazing cats are. I always liked them but I'd never had a house cat. At first they were real skittish but kept coming into the house so we knew we had them for keeps. soon, they took over. My hubby was a self proclaimed cat hater. Not any more. He loves these guys too. Now our mornings wouldn't be complete without both cats and the dog in the sunroom when we have our morning coffee and dose of news on TV.

My husband was allergic! He grew up in the city and never had a pet. Then he marries me, who grew up semi-rural, surrounded by horses, cattle, dogs, cats and the occasional duck. We ended up with 2 horses, 5 cats, a dog and a parakeet (not all at the same time). He had no chance of a normal life!!! Our cat, Baby, a tiny red and white tabby, was his girl. She could be sitting in my lap and as soon as she heard him coming she was down and running over to get in his lap. They would fall asleep on the couch together.

too sweet! That's the way it is with my hubby and our dog, Margaret.
They are inseparable. I refer to myself as 'the wife' and Margaret as 'the girlfriend' because his car never leaves home without her but often goes without me :o)

Apparently, the fish watching vigil has taken a toll on poor Sly. Clearly, he no longer has the strength to sit up and watch them. He must now lay down, poor exhausted little soul :o)
In my next life, I want to be one of my cats ....

Sly wasn't napping either. He was laying there, head down, eyes following the fish. What a lazy kitty.
And yes. If I wasn't clear, I want to come back as one of my cats with ME for the owner.
