I had these in my 20 gal, sadly they slowly died of NTD. I've heard it can persist in a tank, so they've been replaced with other species, but still these are great fish. I actually prefer these over Cardinals, but I seem to be in the minority. It's a great sight, seeing 20-30 in one tank

I'm a huge Neon Tetra fan. I have a species only tank with Neon and love love it. Its not the most active tank, however, people are "shocked" I can keep them alive........ no idea but casual fish keepers with tanks have the hardest time with them. I never have, I've had them a long time now lol.
2 10 gallon tanks, 1 20 gallon tank, 1 Fluval Edge, 1 29 gallon tank, and one backyard pond.

I have a school of 16 in my tank. Where you buy them from does make a difference - people generally buy more than they want so when they lose a few they still have the size school they want.

I bought mine from a discus guy who has a fish room and sells a few other species - he keeps immaculate tanks. I bought my last batch from him and lost nary a one (so I have a couple more than I actually wanted). I wish he kept a few other species but being limited to his basement he only carries more popular fish, and is not too interested in ordering in just for me...

I love these guys...I initially kinda looked down on them for being so "common" - but there aren't many fish that deliver that zingy blue colour consistently, and are compatible with almost anything. Now I consider them a "staple" - as long as I have a community tank, there will be neons in it.
