  1. Default Another tank??!!

I went "home" for Christmas and was able to bring my 45 hex out to Wisconsin with me! Now I have another tank to plan. The tank is roughly 25" tall and 23" in "diameter".

    I could...
A: set it up for my N. Brichardi cichlids.

B: keep the Brichardi in my 20 long and do something else in the 45.

If I go with option B, I would want something colorful and maybe a little less common (not interested in guppies but endlers might be ok, for example). I have hard water, will get exact numbers for you tomorrow after work...

Any suggestions to help get the ideas flowing will be greatly appreciated!!

With a 45 hex you should build a terrarium/aquarium. Like pictured here http://aquatropicslife.com/uploads/3...02075_orig.jpg. That would be real nice in a tank like that. Then you can keep in one tank fish and frog, or maybe some lizards. That would be awesome.

Cool idea, thanks. Gonna stick with fish...

Here's a pic of the tank:

I'm not keep on tall tanks like that. I don't know what to suggest but don't assume that height of a tank compensates for length - fish swim back and forth rather than up and down. Endlers would be ok - or go for some of the more unusually coloured platies. I'd suggest mollies if the tank was longer but I think they get too big for that tank.

I hope your brichardi aren't in the 20 gal permanently? They need more space than that to really thrive in my opinion.

Thanks. I do understand that height isn't the same as length. I'm fine with stocking smaller fish.

I will assume that this tank will be too small for the brichardi and scrap option A. To avoid confusion I will continue the discussion of the brichardi in my 20 long thread (link in my sig).

For the 45, I had thought about a single angel and some type of tetra, but I still wonder about size for the angel and also adaptation to hard water... probably also not a good idea...

Any other stocking suggestions? Will be in the living room so I want color. Will check hardness tonight and post the numbers... I know it's rather hard...

I suggested this for someone else earlier, but what about a selection of wagtail and bumblebee platies? You can't get a lot more colourful than that.

After some discussion in my 20 long thread I decided to try the brichardi in the 45. It actually has more "floor space" than the 20 long. Used the gift cards I got for Christmas to get some decor. This is the result:

I might hit the landscape supply shop for some rocks in the spring, but I think this works for now... the fish seem more comfortable in here, they are "out and about" more, verses hiding in their rock caves in the 20 long. I think they feel more comfortable due to having more "cover".
