Thanks for posting. I have learned something new again (I do love having extra things to worry about - and worry I must for today for the first time ever I managed to mismatch temps during a 75% WC. Possibly because the house has been empty for 10 days, the water from the boiler was not as warm as usual, so my "normal" tap temp setting produced less warm water than "normal" ugh!)

You are quite welcome Soot...you guys are helping me get over the loss of my fish just by using the info (and misfortune) of what I went through, to learn something new, and perhaps avoid a similar misshap of your own....one of the great things about the AC

I've never had the issue Slap because I use a bucket for my tanks and the tap water passes through the faucet aerator. It might be a problem for those that use a python like water changer because the new water never has a chance to off gas?? Judi has a good method though if you feel you need to implement that?

[Slaphppy7;1192506]Thanks Taurus...so it could have been nitrogen oversuaturation instead of oxygen that caused the fish deaths....that article indicates that you should draw warm water from the tabk and let it sit for several hours to dissipate the gases, but it would no longer be warm when you put it in the tank....also not viable for decent size water changes in large tanks[/QUOTE]
When in doubt, do a water change.

Yeah, I really don't have room to "age" the tap, I am going to just follow mommy1's suggestion of closely monitoring the tap temp as well as running the airstone when adding water ( I need to start turning the filter back on sooner, too, but have always been concerned the splash from the spraybar that high above the water surface would stress the fish)...I guess not as much stress as giving them the "bends"

My fish are fine with my AC110s left on during my 40% PWC.

I ususally do a larger PWC on both the 10 gallon and the 40, which can leave the pick up tubes for the filters (whether HOB or canister) exposed to air

Taurus is right about the nitrogen, I actually meant to write gas and gases and not oxygen yesterday but being in a hurry to help and several hours past my bedtime I got stuck on oxygen for some reason and never caught on myself. Thanks Taurus for catching my mistake. The end result is the same.. gas bubble disease, and the prevention is also the same, watch the temps and make sure there is surface agitation during water changes.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

No problem mommy1, your help yesterday was priceless...I have since Googled around a bit about GB disease, but did not run across the article he found, for some reason...regardless of which gas caused my problem, I will know better next time PWC's are due (which BTW is tomorrow for the 10 gallon)
