So I just took a flashlight in to check on my tanks and discovered my Blue Gourami lying motion-less on the sand. She wasn't breathing noticeably at all and only moved if you really gave her a push with a net. She was incredibly old and had been doing poorly for months so I took this as her finally giving up and decided on euthanizing her so she didn't suffer any longer or get attacked by my Bumblebee Catfish.

She lived to be 7 1/2 years old despite being heavily stunted, this is due to her being the first fish I purchased when I was 10 so all the beginner mistakes someone makes with fish I made while caring for her, and had been completely blind in both eyes for the past 2 years. She only grew to about 4 1/2" and ate vigorously and lived happily up until a few days ago when her health and activity started to seriously decline. I'm sure some of you had read previous threads and posts about her when I had little scares with her health but each time she bounced back. Look like it was finally her time.

R.I.P Gabby, my little powdered blue baby.

I remember reading about this fish. Sad but well done you on giving her such an old age.

Thank you so much. I'm still surprised myself she lived so long. She's that pet that you've had for so long that you get accustomed to them being there and you begin to believe they'll always be there. It was upsetting to have to let her go.

Aww sorry to hear she is gone.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

I've got a tetra that's bought in 2006. Never did name her anything besides "silver fish". Would be strange to see that one finally go.

It's amazing how long lived some of these fish can be. Sorry to read this - I remember you mentioning her a few times in other threads. You did the right thing at the end to make her passing swift.
