The red stuff looked like roses. Lol. Pic was too small to have a good look.

So I now have the canister running, it was leaking, a pull down and reassemble seems to have fixed whatever was going on, I did tighten a hose connection, so it very well may have been that. Due to the major clean it got, the tank is assume, going by the bacterial bloom happening, either fully cycling again or is at the least in a mini cycle. I will test it tonight to find out whats going on.

The tank is also now running a heater.

Fake plants or not, nice job with the tank
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Canister has cleaned this tank up beautifully, ended up not putting the Otto in.

Tank is getting a few inhabitants tomorrow, so i did a full test on it to make sure its still good, as its been left fishless for around 10 days now, and the canister was turned off for around 5 weeks or so, before being pulled down and washed in town water (it was feral lol)

    So results are

    PH: 7.4 - 7.6
    Ammonia - 0
    Nitrite - 0
    Nitrate - 5

    Very happy with that!

I think I am missing something here - if the tank has had no filtration and has been fishless for 10 days, with the canister turned off for 5 weeks, I don't understand how you have a cycled tank.

Eek. I agree - of course no ammonia and no nitrite if you have no ammonia source. That tank isn't cycled!

The tank is cycled. I am happy to put fish in it. The tank itself has not been cleaned, mulm etc, obviously enough in there to keep the bacteria ticking over. It is not a totally fresh tank

If I had of given you those readings and not told you the other you would not have stated it isn't cycled. *L*

Anyway fish will be going in it today and the tank monitored

Well, no, of course not. We can only comment on the information given. So how is the tank cycled? Have you dosed ammonia and seen it disappear in 24hrs? Sorry...I don't get it.

I have no need to dose ammonia as the is ammonia being produced from the debris and mulm in the substrate. As fish are going into this tank today, I definitely wont be dosing it with anything. I will keep an eye on it as the bioload increases, tis no problems
