    Default Apple Snail Inside Filter

    0 Not allowed!
I've had my two apple snails for a few months and one has been acting a little odd lately. First of all, it's gone through an impressive growth spurt the past couple weeks. And now it's been taking a liking to the filter, it's the same filter I've been using since they were first introduced to the tank. At first the snail would climb up to where the filtered water comes out, sit in the running water for a bit then return to the tank. Later it started climbing all over the front and even the top of it, and it's even found its way INSIDE the filter by wedging itself in to cause the top to pop off. I'm guessing it just likes whatever is on the sponge in the filter because that's where I've found it sitting the past few times, but I'm looking for other people's opinions. I'm not sure why it would be going all the way up there in search of food, it seemed happy for the longest time eating algae wafers and veggies. This has only been happening the past few days, does anyone know what is causing this change in behavior?
Here is a picture of the filter I've been using: 2319458103.jpg

It could be that the snail has found a new food source in the bacteria growing on the filter, but another thing to consider is that it is a common instinct among freshwater animals to attempt to move upstream if they feel something is wrong with the water in their stretch of river/lake/pond. Have you checked your water parameters recently? Added anything new to the tank?
