Every time I see this neon I am surprised it's still alive (+ some other photos)
I have had this little neon over a year myself and it was "second hand" so no idea how old it is.
It had the most horrid case of whitespot (ich or velvet - not sure as was near the start of my hobby but it was covered!) but recovered with treatment. Then it got caught up in the filer of my first little tank (probably weak from the whitespot) and I thought I would have to euthanise it. But this fish swims as fast as any other, eats like a monster and will fight off anything for a piece of algae wafer (including the new betta who is absolutely mad for algae wafer) ... so long live the ugliest old neon ... who photobombed my Kuhli photoshoot
(the handsome Kuhli when he's not being photobombed)

No Fear!Shrimp. I hope he doesn't regret standing his ground ... so far the betta prefers algae wafer and stealing bits of snail from the assassins

He certainly is a tough little guy. He missed the start of feeding the other day and I felt a wash of sadness thinking he'd finally gone, then he shot out from the plants and pushed everyone aside to eat his share.
Every time I see that photo I crack up though - geez, he is ugly!
(mind you, he does look a *little* less ugly when he has his mouth closed)
The black tubes on the last photo are stuffed full of shrimp and kuhlis - they absolutely love it in there! One amano preciously guards the top right section and no one else is allowed in, but the others are routinely squished up with various beasties.

Aw he's not that repulsive, lol....my daughter loves the imperfect, misfit fish...if this were her tank, he'd be her favorite!

Heh, love that little cherry. He's just going "I ain't scared of you, fin-boy!"
Cute little neon, actually. Weird, but cute, in the sort of way things like banjo cats are cute.I hate hearing people say "it's only a $3/$5/$1 fish/shrimp, so it's ok if it dies, I can just get another." It's still an animal! All animals should be treated like they're worth $10,000.

Didn't think I'd ever consider a neon "tough." But your little guy is impressive!! All your pics are terrific!
