    Default Fish ID

Was travelling for work and came past a faraway (from home) LFS, part of a garden centre.
Stopped for a quick look and was totally smitten with a fish labelled only "spotted catfish"
Asked the shop guy if it had a different name but he didn't know.

I DID NOT BUY LE FISH, having learnt here that one does the research first and the buying later.
(and it kinda looked like it might grow big - just had that vibe about it!)

Googled "spotted catfish" but that's clearly not it.

It was white base with random black blotches like a paint pony. Big whiskers and a body a bit like a fat worm. Moved quite sinuously and sucker mouth but didn't stay still long. There were 5 in the tank, all with different markings. Was in with the rams but seeing as they had a tank of yellow guppies labelled "CANARY PLATIES" I can't imagine that would mean much!

    Any ideas?

Too bad you didn't get a pic of the fish in question while you were there.

I know. I didn't think of finding out more about it until I sat down at my desk at home (mostly because I thought I would google "spotted catfish" and immediately find it!) ... It's probably bog standard boring fish. It wasn't a great shop lol

I think this might be it - (via Google Images) - face is the same!

    Look up synodontis and pictus.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me

    Nope :(
Neither of those are the right colour (see picture above) and this fish was more "squishy" and sort of elongated.

    Possibly this piebald Walking Catfish

    Assuming different colour variants/patterns exist.
Too big for my tank ... or for most tank. It did have the "FEED ME I WILL GROW MASSIVE" vibe ...
