I don't get it. His fins seemed to be getting better except for the tail area. It seems like that part has gotten worse. Should I try treating with salt or medicine?

This picture is a little better for me to see, and I can make out the details of the end tips pretty clearly. The end tips are turning dark, little black edges. This is indeed fin rot.

Ugh, I -hate- fin rot, please forgive me, its been the bane of two Betta of mine who eventually, for all care given ended up perishing from such. It can be a lot more tricky to treat in some Betta than others, and can become an recurrent problem.

I have found salt to be nearly useless in curing fin rot. I've found it might help heal in cases of ripped fins, but it doesn't treat, especially once that black symptom on the fins arises, and using salt once the infection seems good and truly gone, it reappears quite surprisingly not long after.

I have also found "Fin Rot" cures in a bottle to be nearly useless.

I have found the most effective remedy a 1-2 punch of Maracyn and Maracyn 2, used at the same time. This will treat positive and negative bacteria at the same time, so you do not find yourself treating with one or the other with zero results. Treat with the amount and time specified on the box, and then, treat for at least five days more.
