    Default Thumbs up vs rep

    0 Not allowed!
How do these two now work, seems like the thumbs up has replaced the rep?

    Just curious

This should help to explain the difference

William had posted a better explanation, but I can't find it right now

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

IMO, seems the "thumbs up" feature has actually lessened rep given, across the board....I'd be willing to bet that new visitors/members to the AC don't even know we HAVE a rep icon

That was my thought, the thumbs up is right there and extremely easy to see, you kinda have to know what the rep was otherwise you think the thumbs up is all that is available

Agree with that. I get loads of thumbs now and little rep. Personally I don't care much either way. It's nice to be able to help someone. If they express their gratitude in some way it's an added bonus.

I agree, doesn't really matter. But for some of the newer members you need a certain amount of rep before some of the functions become available (i think gift giving and some of those)

I also use the thumbs when it tells me I have to spread rep around before re-repping someone. Its like a mini-High 5.

While I appreciate the thoughts behind any positive feedback on my posts, I have to say I really don't like the thumbs up and prefer the reputation system. I think the thumbs are silly and too facebookish for my tastes. If I wanted to play facebook I would create my own and go there instead of here. One of the more annoying aspects of the thumbs up is the fact that some people are giving it for every post indiscriminately, sort of, "my friend posted, let me give them a thumb", just like facebook. So if a newcomer sees this, they don't see a few good posts being singled out as good posts, they see all the posts with a thumb or two. Sort of defeats the purpose.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I agree with mommy1 here and gave her another thumbs up.
The site here is quite 'busy'....my eyes have not the time or energy yet to find everything!

So what's this 'rep'? And while we're at it, what's all this cool icons
    all the cool kids have?

There should not be any function that you need rep to use. A certain amount of posts yes but not rep. If there is something that needs it is a bug. Let me know and I will fix it.
Do as I say. Not as I do.
