This should help to explain the difference
William had posted a better explanation, but I can't find it right now

While I appreciate the thoughts behind any positive feedback on my posts, I have to say I really don't like the thumbs up and prefer the reputation system. I think the thumbs are silly and too facebookish for my tastes. If I wanted to play facebook I would create my own and go there instead of here. One of the more annoying aspects of the thumbs up is the fact that some people are giving it for every post indiscriminately, sort of, "my friend posted, let me give them a thumb", just like facebook. So if a newcomer sees this, they don't see a few good posts being singled out as good posts, they see all the posts with a thumb or two. Sort of defeats the purpose. If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
A moderator on a fish forum should be able to identify an oscar... Don't you think?

I agree with mommy1 here and gave her another thumbs up.
The site here is quite 'busy'....my eyes have not the time or energy yet to find everything!
So what's this 'rep'? And while we're at it, what's all this cool icons
all the cool kids have?
