Divider busted on 55
Several months ago, I busted the black divider that goes across the top of my 55. I tried patching back together with silicon when I didn't have fish in it and could leave the water at a lower level for awhile. Unfortunately, the silicon didn't hold. I've seen 48 inch long glass canopies for older style 55's and am thinking about getting one and not worrying about the divider. My question is, does the divider hold any purpose other than allowing you to use two 24 inch tops? I'm worried about the aquarium falling apart without it. Also, I just read that those black dividers are replaceable. Is that true? Should I bother?

Those supports stop the glass from bowing out when filled with water. They are important for the integrity of the tank and without them the tank may burst. You can replace them and if you can't get another tank it would be well worth it. I think glass cages has them online or if you know the manufacturer of the tank you may be able to contact them. When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I have an older 55G with a missing center brace, but the glass is 3/4' thick and the tank weighs almost 100lb empty. Little different than newer tanks. I would patch a newer tank brace without question.
Emptying the tank until the braces connect, then using some epoxy putty might serve you well.Who is "General Failure" and why is he reading my hard drive?
