    Default Sexing Blue Rams

    0 Not allowed!
    Hello all,
A couple of weeks ago, I purchased 3 German blue rams. I'm trying to sex them at the moment, but can't quite figure it out. If anyone could take a look at the pictures and tell me what they think, I would be very grateful.

Ram 1- I am pretty sure this fish is male, just judging by its coloration. It was also was chasing one of the other two rams aggressively, and so was separated from the pack.

Ram 2- This ram's black spot is bled out a little at the base with blue scales, so it looks like upside down cone.

Ram 3- This ram's black spot is not bled out, and it has two nasal spots that you can see in the Ram3_Picture1 photo.

The second and third rams are being housed together right now, and are not behaving aggressively towards each other. They also tend to school together in the tank (75 gallons).

I'm sorry if the pictures aren't of the best quality- the fish wouldn't hold still. ;)

    Thanks!

Ram in picture #1 is definitely a Male.
Are the GBR's roughly the same age?
I would say Ram #2 is a female judging by the rounded fins. I'm surprised there is no pinkish colouration at the belly area with this one.
Ram #3 is a tough call from the pictures provided. If Ram #2 and #3 are young fish it is difficult to tell the sex. If Ram #3 is as old as Ram #1 I would say you have two females and one Male.

Thank you for the quick response! :)

The GBR's should be about the same age- I got them all at the same time from the same store, and they're all the same length (1.5 inch-2 inches).
I finally got some decent pictures of ram #3- wouldn't hold still!

Ah the captions got mixed up... so the second picture of my last post is ram #3 in the front, #2 in the back. The third picture is ram #3 to the left, ram #2 to the right.

    Sorry for any confusion!

Thanks for the extra pictures. Ram #2 I would say is female.
Ram #3 looks more female than male but I'm not 100% sure. Could be a younger male. Sorry.
