  1. Default Bare Bottom Suggestions

Is there anything that can be used (some kind of mat, or plank, or something) instead of gravel or sand?

I don't know if I am explaining myself properly. I can see the advantage of a bare bottom tank but can't quite bring myself up to having a tank with a shinny, clear bottom. Any thoughts?

I've often thought about applying a dark paint or foam of some sort to the bottom exterior panel for a bare bottom tank, but have never tried it. But if I was thinking seriously about a bare bottom tank, I would certainly check into it.

Second that...if I wanted to keep my tank bare bottom, I would paint the underside, and match the colour of the silicon if it was coloured.

I hate bare bottoms, but I had to set one up for a breeder pair of discus I'm getting, but I made it look AWESOME. First off, NEVER paint ANYTHING on the inside of the tank. But, if you buy the textured spray paint from krylon and paint the outside bottom of your tank, it'll literally look like glass sitting on sand and it really cuts down light reflection and glare.

I wrote up a little DIY with what I used Here

    But here's the gist, before:

70 Gal Planted Rio Negro Angelfish Biotope with:
    1 Whip Tail Pleco
    7 Hatchet fish
11 Glo Light tetras, 6 Black Skirted Tetras
    6 Bronze Corys
    3 Wild Type Angelfish
    Current Plants:
Giant Amazon Sword, Narrow Leaf Java, Val, moss on driftwood

Imo bare tanks are suitable for breeders but I really don't like the look of them.
