thanks everyone for your advice :-)
I have decided to get a German Blue Ram but i likely won't get him until my tank re establishes itself.

I have all the fish that will be in the aquarium with the GBR, and found good homes with established, cycled tanks for the few fish that i needed to remove.

Right now in that tank i have: 9 Cardinal Tetras, 6 Pygmy Rainbowfish, 4 Ottocats, 6 Panda Corydoras, 1 Albino Corydora and a full sized Cory Catfish of a type i'm unsure of.

To this group I will eventually add the male German Blue Ram.

The only further change will be removing the gravel and adding the silica sand, and if i'm feeling better that will be tomorrow and i don't expect to get the GBR until January or so- and that could be longer still as i have looked into the local aquarium fish stores and none have any.

So thanks again and if anyone knows why this group won't fit well together as a peaceful family, please let me know- and i am aware of the temperature requirement for the GBR and the Panda cories- i think that if i put the tank at the highest the Pandas can take, that will be alright for the GBR.

    take care everyone!

    Funny thing to add-
I completed my substrate change and the fish are settling in nicely.
The very day i did this, the Aquarium shop called and told me they finally have some German Blue Rams in stock.
I had to turn them down, and put my name on the list for the next shipment to come in because the tank isn't ready.
I need to add a couple more corydoras and 2 more ottos. i also had 2 Cardinals pass away and i'd like to replace them but i'm afraid the Pygmy Rainbowfish will eat them.
I'm so pleased with the sand substrate- even the fish look healthier.
