I always leave the caps on when doing my tests.

To read the API test results, I have downloaded the color charts from their website into my gallery on my smartphone (or your PC, laptop or tablet and you can also upload the color charts to Google Drive, Dropbox, etc). I bring the correct chart up for what I want to read and put my screen brightness at 100%. I hold the test tube against the very white part of the chart (you can enlarge it on your screen for better viewing) and read it that way. If you do this it doesn't matter what your room lighting is, as it gives you a very accurate reading. The colors on the charts on their website are very different from the chart that you get with your test kit. I have found this method to give very consistent and accurate results.

Is this the one you are talking about?

I have trouble with the freshwater chart because it looks like 80ppm is lighter than 20ppm or 40ppm which look identical.

+10,000 to gronalura!! Your method is one of the most amazing displays of human ingenuity ever seen on this planet. I've struggled with trying to get accurate readings with this test kit for years and I'm so excited to try it your way

I just visited API's website and found this page with a video on how to conduct the test: http://www.apifishcare.com/product.php?p=videos&id=591. Interestingly, in the video the man only inverts the vial for the one minute of shaking but the instructions included with the test say to shake vigorously.

I also noticed that they're coming out with an app to help with water changes, so who knows if they'll put the colour charts in it as well.

thanks also found some individual ones got both and saved to dropbox so I can access on my phone

EDIT - although I think my screen is color calibrated I think my phone is more so. That is the one thing you have to be careful with especially on the ammo, since 0 to .5 are so close

actually even using my phone wasn't very good - it is to washed out on my screen. Guess I will stick with the card for now.

yea those are the ones I downloaded but the color isn't calibrated on my screen so it is kind of worthless.
