Talking First attempt at making my own fish food

    1 Not allowed!
After some 1st Class advice off of Aeonflame I had a bash at making my own fish food. Aimed to make it community suitable food.

    Ingredients;
    900g of frozen prawns
    1 cup of frozen peas
    2 carrots
    1 head of broccoli
    3/4 of a cauliflower
    2 courgettes
    4 cloves of garlic
    Gelatin (flavourless)

Defrost the frozen items, then put it all in a food processor. Then into a big bowl, mix thoroughly, drain/squeeze out some of the excess fluid. Then add gelatin.

Mines turned out like this -image.jpg

Next time I would add more gelatin, although it has only been setting for 4 hour, some time in the fridge may help. Fed a cube to both tanks tonight. Wow, epic response!!

Plan to cut it all into cubes tomorrow and freeze.

    Total shopping bill 10
    My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

Looks tasty Scotty (for the fish). How about a video during the next feeding?
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
A moderator on a fish forum should be able to identify an oscar... Don't you think?

That can be arranged Mommy1. I will see what I can manage tomorrow night. The banjo catfish really went crazy for this mixture.

Thanks for the quick reply Aeon...I must admit I had to Google "courgettes", otherwise known as "zucchini", lol...this recipe is bookmarked and the thread subscribed to, I am anxious to try it....and thank you Scotti for posting it!

As aeon said fresh in the fridge a week, frozen months.

I will freeze the cubes once cut and seperated, then put them into a container once frozen. Means they wont freeze together. If you know what I mean.

I know exactly what you mean...what size cubes will you start with?..and for how many fish?...any species will benefit from this recipe?...and how often can this be offered to the fish?

Is it a once or twice a week "treat", or an every other day snack to supplement other foods?

I use this almost exclusively whenever I make any. I dont feed as much as if I'm feeding processed food. There is basically no filler in it.
Another thing to consider is that you can use any sort of vegetables you have on hand, and change the ingredients to suit your fish.

Remember to use very little animal protein when feeding herbivorous rift lake cichlids.
