I can't believe I forgot the lime!!! You gotta have it. Great stuff. As for weeds in my garden I don't spray. I pull them when I can and then lay as much straw a I can. Six inches or more. When the growing season is over I'll pull that up and add to the compost. Then I'll lay plastic down or cardboard sheets (I can get some nice ones from work for free). Next spring before my growing season starts I'll follow these steps.
1. Pull up the plastic and water. Till up the soil and wait for weeds to sprout.
2. Put the plastic back down for a week or so to kill the weeds.
3. Pull the plastic back up and till again. Wait for any more weeds to sprout.
4. Lay the plastic down one more time and then it should be ready for planting and weed free.
You don't have to fight tons of weeds. Next fall lay down some plastic again to keep any more seeds out.Increasing your biodiversity increases your stability.
You know what this tank needs? ........................ Crypts.

Who needs a garden forum, when I've got you guys? Thanks for the help. I'll try the plastic method and see how it goes. Makes sense.

Since this is house rehab section I have to pout a little. There is a great investment house that just came on the market a block away from me, it could be a beautiful big house. I would love to be able to buy, fix it, and move the block and sell our current place. Grrrrr. Why can't I have a spare 75k sitting around to buy and fix it.
Someone is going to wind up with a great house.
