White Apple Snail
I have a white apple snail that crawled out of the tank and fell onto our carpet (for some reason I pulled the lid off). He was discovered today (most likely, out for a couple of days) and the meat inside was "withdrawn" if you know what I mean--it was visible but pulled inside the shell.
ANyways, I have it soaking right now. No movement has been detected for several hours.
(1) how long can they survive out of water?
(2) how long would it take to revive him, if in fact he were alive?Paul

They have a lid(operculum) over their shells, and in their native habitat are known to survive a day or two out of water. Leave the snail in the water for a day, make sure the water is warm, well oxygenated and dechlorinated. By the end of the day, if it hasn't moved yet, take it out and sniff it. You will know immediately whether it is dead or not.

OK thanks. I'll keep it in water overnight. Water has been treated with water conditioner. I'll check on it later tonight, and then tomorrow as well. We've only had him for a month or two. Hopefully he'll pull through.Paul

Glad to report that our snail has been moving around a small bowl with water for an hour or two. I put in a couple of algae wafers to help him out. He hasn't eaten either of them, but at least he's alive and seems to be well.
