Thread: Weird Algae

Anyone know what this is and how to manage permanently. Looks like a puff of smoke but is easily removed with tweezers - just floats there. But it keeps appearing and I don't know how to get rid of it completely other than manually.
And sorry for the size of this. Can anyone tell me how to reduce the picture size before uploading. It's being attached from a folder on my laptop.

If you want to up-load a pic that is easier to see, you can resize it following the instructions we have for entering pic in the comps, The same process for resizing should work here as well (link below)
Sorry, but I can't help resize the current pic. But is you want, you can try it again in another thread and I can delete this one if it worksIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I don't know the specific "species" of algae, but it looks like a filamentous "hair" algae. From what I see, do you have algae on other plants in the tank as well (small spots on the leaves)?
Please post more info on your tank setup: What size tank, what type of lighting, photoperiod and if the tank receives any "natural" light. That might help identify the root cause.

Yes, I battle algae in most of my tanks but I've never seen this species. I vary the lights. Used to be on all day from about 9 am to 8 pm. Lately I've been leaving them off during the day while at work and turn them on around 6:30 pm until 11:00. This is a 20 long tank.
There is java fern and anubias on the driftwood, couple of kinds of crypts, a couple of small swords, and I believe chain sword. I have a FugeRay LED light and I will admit I am not consistent
with Excel or ferts (I have used Flourish Comprehensive). I recently tried some dried ferts and wondering if this may have caused this new algae.
