    Default Hello All. Feeding Question

    0 Not allowed!
I'm new to fish keeping. I have a 5 gallon tank with 2 guppies. Right now I'm feeding them Tetra flakes, but it seems they don't like ALL the flakes. They scurry around trying to find the pieces they like. I was wondering if there is a food out there that guppies generally like to eat, without so much waste. Thanks.

How much are you feeding them? It's easy to over feed a fish like a guppy, and while I'm not the most experienced fish keeper here my gut tells me you might be just giving them too much if they are having a chance to pick and choose. I believe most flake foods vary in composition from flake to flake in order to provide a more balanced diet.

    +1 to the above

Try feeding a little less and see what happens
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I've had fish pick and choose which flakes they like. You can try a different brand of flakes or a tiny pellet food.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

Along with what the other people have posted, guppies only need a couple flakes each per feeding. Their stomachs are tiny.

I feed them twice a day with an amount about the size of the tip of my finger.

I'm thinking that's way too much.
Try to think of a fish's stomach as being about the size of their eye. guppies have very tiny eyes = very tiny stomachs and they need only a very tiny amount of flakes.
