So I'm using my HOB filter as a refude with some Cheato and a small light in it for filtering, and I was curious if I should add the carbon filter media that the filter uses? Would this be good or bad for my tank?

I have added carbon on occasion to my set-up because some of my corals looked off. I dont think it would hurt at all. I dont know if the carbon took anything out of the water or if my corals just had a bad few days, but everything came back to normal after three days. I removed the carbon after that.
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

A refugium typically will not have any filter media in it as it will limit the value of a refugium. Even in a AC 110, you would either be seriously limiting the nutrient export potential by putting carbon in there, or you would not be putting in enough carbon to make a difference.

I like running carbon in my set-ups more as a preventative measure. If you want to run carbon, I would suggest doing it in a separate HOB or internal filter.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
