  1. Default Pencilfish behaving oddly

    0 Not allowed!
Ive had some Beckford Pencilfish for a while now but recently ive noticed one of them is behaving strangely, it is quite plump and no longer zips about like the rest do, it sort of hovers around the tank at an angle (with its tailed angled downwards). I'll get a pic up asap, but in the mean time does anyone know what could be wrong with it?

I'll take a stab at dropsy.

Thanks for the reply, so is it worth medicating or should I Euthanize? From what I can tell Dropsy is hard to treat (I never usually have luck treating fish anyway!) I dont want to euthanize but i'd rather not have the fish suffer.

    That might be right option.

If you can see some scales sticking out from the body I would take that fish out of the tank asap. Steeler1 said it all. "That might be right option."

Sorry but it happens. I would also do a large water change after that and monitor the rest of your stock for the next week.

Right OK, it does appear to have sticking out scales. So what is the best way to euthanize?

Sorry about your fish...and I would like an answer to your question, because I have no clue what the quickest and most humane way would be.

    Sorry about your pencilfish.

When I euthanized my rainbow, I put a small bowl of water in the freezer. When it starts to get a film of ice on top, I took it out and put my fish in. Within a few seconds it was over. Not sure if it's the most humane way, but it was fast.
