I use diy clay based root tabs that work well. You can also buy chelated iron supplements

I know some people use laterite as a substrate base layer. Something to keep in mind in the future, though it is probably too much trouble to incorporate now.

Have you reason to think there is an iron deficiency? This is no where near as common as some imagine. If you are using a comprehensive nutrient fertilizer, it will likely have sufficient iron in proportion. An excess of iron can cause plants to shut down assimilation of some other nutrients.

On the laterite, I tried this in my 5-foot tank back in 1997 and it seemed to have no effect at all. And that tank was full of large Echinodorus (which are "said" to be iron-hungry), Aponogeton, and crypts. But the same species grew just as well in the other two tanks without laterite. I wouldn't waste the money, and as someone mentioned, this has to be sprinked down and the substrate placed on top. Those who have tried to incorporate it without draining the tank and starting over have reported real messes. But it is not likely to help anyway, as other nutrients will probably be out of balance in the general nutrient scheme.

I am dosing Flourish Iron in one tank now, as an experiment. I am trying this because I have red tiger lotus which could probably use it, but it will be a few weeks before any change will be observed as I just started last week. I also have some large Echinodorus bleherae in this tank too, so I will see if this improves them over the same species in the other two tanks.

Actually one of the plants, when i add my co2 to the tank, will be super iron hungry. They turn the most awesome color of red when enough iron and co2 is there. So i was planning on adding a small extra dose of iron in the substrate just at the base of these plants.

You don't mention the plant species, but most red-leaf plants will increase their colour with higher light, but of course thismeans increasing all nutrients to keep the balance, including CO2.
