His tank was labeled as "Blue Apisto" but he doesn't look anything like the pics and videos. He's a juvenile. Can you guess at what type he is?

Although there are traits of an Apistogramma showing, it will be easier to ID after it has settled into the tank in a few days; the colouration and pattern is pale due to the stress, not surprising.

BTW, it sometimes pays to ask the store for the scientific name from the invoice, depending where the fish came from. Common names are often made up by the store, which doesn't help much.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

He's a little more colored up today. And someone on another forum is positive he's a L. curviceps. I DO see the smiling face now that I look closely at him! Why in the world would the LFS have him labeled as Blue Apisto?

    Hope I was helpful.
Well, I got my african butterfly cichlids under "apistogramma pandurini". They aren't even from the same continent. It seems like fish stores unsurprisingly have a difficulty identifying miniscule, greyish juvenile fish.

'Blue Appsito' is a common name for A. Borelli usually. this however looks nothing like the quality borelli... here is a pictoral example:

The vast majority of people I've posted pics on forums are now agreeing it's either a curviceps or dorsigera. So weird, as I've wanted a curviceps or dorsigera for many months. So, Madagascariensis, seems you were right on the money!
