    Default Catfish ID?

This is for sale in my area -- seller doesn't know what it is and it seems nobody else does either! It's about 12cm long.

    Any ideas?

    Synodontis schoutendeni or similar?

I would also guess Synodontis, which suggests it'll get big, but I'm not sure of the specific type. These folks are the experts on IDs:

I guess it depends what you call big. At 5" for the smallest species of syno, that'd outgrow most tanks of hobbyists here.

Oh, I'm not entirely convinced on that. Some of the Americans here have big tanks. Let's say 12.5cm fish. A 120cm wide would already be quite nice for a fish of that temperament and size. That's a juwel 240 which isn't that rare.
Now our American members have some really big tanks...

Personally it's not my favorite kind of fish thogh.

I'd say the average tank size of all the members would be 55 gallons

Which is, if I got the right reference table:

    48" x 13" x 21"

Not bad for a 5 inch fish, about 9 times it's length.

Yawn, ok calm down. I was talking from a UK perspective. Most tanks aren't that big here. It was only my opinion.
