  1. Exclamation Angelfish (scalaire) won't lay its eggs

    0 Not allowed!
My angelfish has a fat belly for about four days now, and her papilla is visible but she doesn't lay eggs. She has not eaten for a week and i am starting to worry. Will she be ok? I have a male in my tank, and they form a pair, but he is not expressing breeding behaviour. My tank is 45 liters and i have 3 angelfish. The other one doesn't seem to attack them, and he/she doesn't get attacked either. I'm not planning on having fry, i just want my fish to get well again. She seems very tired, but still reacts to my presence. Is there something i can do to make her get rid of the eggs? Thx.

Is the fecal matter discolored? What are the parameters of the tank? What are the other members of the tank? What temp is the tank? How long has this tank been set up?

45 liters is just under 12gal - that's awfully tiny for 3 angels - just sayin.

+1 to Sandz for all those questions.

Her fecal matter isn't discoloured. At first i thought she was constipated, until i saw her showing breeding behaviour (locking mouth with her mate, cleaning the filter's surface). All the parameters seem normal, ph 7.2 No3: 10 mg/l. No2: 0mg/l cl2: 0 Temp: 24-25 celsius tank has been set up for 8-9 months

May I ask - Why do you think the fish was constipated when you monitored and took note of a fecal sample?

Outside of all this - that tank is tiny for a fish with the potential size of three angels. If it was two angels housed bare bottom and they were mated, I wouldnt be AS concerned but even then its usually 29 gal for just the mated pair in a breeder set up. You didnt mention, is there any other tank mates outside of just 3 angels?

I find this very hard to believe. 45 liters is not enough room for a single angel to claim enough territory forget about two and three peacefully coexisting. Anyone who has kept angelfish, even unsuccessfully, can see through this.
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
A moderator on a fish forum should be able to identify an oscar... Don't you think?

Im not surprised considering the space stated for living conditions. But am sorry for your loss.

Living conditions aside, if the observations you have stated are correct then I would wonder if the final physical manifestation of the problem was egg bind combined with some kind of infection. Perhaps all brought on by stress given the cramped conditions.

I'm not an expert so just speculating here.
