So here it is guys, my first properly set up & planned for tank. 13 gallon, filtered, heated etc. I have 1 male plakat betta in there right now. I did have a cherry shrimp in there with him but that didn't work out too well .

While I'm here I do have a question, I got him on Thursday. I gave him time to settle in and I just tried to feed him (fighter bites pellets) but he just spat it out. He seems to be acting ok but I'm not sure, he's only the second betta I've owned. He was lying on the bottom of the tank yesterday but I did a water change and fixed the flow on the filter and he became much more active. Anyway I'm not sure what to do on the food front.

Perfect little tank for betta! To answer your questions:

    1) Like he's really gonna want cheap pellets after feasting on the tastiest of cherry shrimp? Get him some frozen blood worms and freeze dried shrimp, then slowly acclimate him to a higher quality pellet or flake.

    2) Bettas sleep on the bottom of the tank all the time, nothing to worry about. They don't like too much current, it keeps them from being able to lay still. Wait till you find him wedged into a plant sleeping like a crashed plane, mine always made me laugh.

    beautiful tank. Just gorgeous.
you might want to make him a little cave or create something for him to swim in and out of. Bettas love to play hide and seek.
I have a hollow ceramic log for mine. I would prefer not to have it because it's not a natural piece but the betta loves it. It has at least 4 openings he can swim in and out of and most nights, he sleeps inside it.
Maybe even a piece of driftwood that is angled so he can swim under it would work as well. some flat rocks that you could stack and make some openings he could swim through. just some ideas.
    again - very pretty tank

BTW did you fishless cycle the tank or are you in the process of cycling with the betta? Either way, if you are unaware of cycling, please see the links in my signature line and be sure to ask questions if you have them.

That's good to know, he's swimming all about now he's settled in. I got a little cave for him today. I'll have to post some more pics, I'm a rather rusty when it comes to photography. I haven't picked up my camera in a long time. I fishless cycled the tank.
