    Thanks!

Yes you do :) we decided that they needed more room than the 15 and moved them up and found them some friends. All of their tails are back to bright red and they seem to be happier in their larger group.

    At the moment we have:
1 male swordtail ( also from the small tank)
    9 pristella tetras ( 5 from the 15 and 4 new ones)
    1 bristle nose pleco
    1 bolivian ram
    3 otos

I think that another school of something would be a nice addition, but I haven't figured out what yet. Otherwise we might just add to the pristella group.

    :)

... The ram says we need more plants. That is probably the next step.

So, our bristlenose didn't survive more than two days, but everyone else has been happy since we started.

Thanks for all the advice! Our tank is a happy place :)

Sorry about your BNP. Tank looks nice - have you thought about adding a black background?

also sorry about the BNP. Something is off there. I'd try again. they are great fish.
Your tank looks GREAT! but I agree with gronlaura. A black background to hid the cords etc wouldl really set it off beautifully

BN pleco take two...It's like having a roomba 0_o. He's been in there three days and most of the tank has been vacuumed!

This tank has been mostly on the back burner while we got another smallish tank set up in my son's room. I hope to add another school soon. We will see what the pleco does to the weekly water parameters first, though.

Good luck with the new BNP. Just be sure to scoop his poop and all should be well. Also be sure to feed him - just algae won't keep him going.

Thanks! How often do you feed plecos veggies? Or algae wafers? We feed the rest of the troupe every other day.

And yes, I can already see that there needs to be some mini vacuum sessions midweek... Poop central!

I feed veggies once a week, leave it in for 2 days....algae wafers maybe every other day, broken up, but most everyone in the 40 gallon will take a bite or two

Mini vacs? I may be able to help: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...d.php?t=115488

Sweet!! I bet I could just use my regular siphon hose ( it is a good 10 feet or more so we can siphon from tank out a convenient window) without the larger attachment. Thanks bunches!

I got some zucchini for the new fellow, so we will give it a try tomorrow. He is pretty large, so I think he can manage it raw ( does that sound right?). The ottos are all swimming around looking confused now that most of the algae has been demolished. They will probably appreciate the algae wafers too.

No prob, the hose should work just fine...my BNP prefers the zucchini microwaved for about a minute, in a bit of water, (then cooled of course) more than she does raw
