  1. Default Kuhli Loach Tankmates

    0 Not allowed!
    Hello everybody! :D
I was curious as to if anybody has any Kuhli Loaches, and what fish they keep with them?
I am looking for possible tankmates for Kuhli Loaches, so yeah :P
(Don't worry, Ill make sure to do plenty of research on recommended fish, and Ill make sure tank size, water parameters, etc. will be all good)

I have had Kuhli loaches with alot of different Tetras (Cardinals, Neons, Glow-light, Greenfire, Black Phantom, Thai, Von Rio, and head & tail light). There was also a pair of German Blue Rams with some Cory's in that tank. Marble hatchets work, Harlequin rasboras, rummynose, etc.
A lot depends on your tank size with the above mentioned species.
Kuhli's are peaceful and hang out with each other and as long as you don't introduce something aggressive into the tank all should be ok between them and their tank mates.
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

Please remember; every keystroke has a consequence.

Can't go wrong with either one, Neons are a little more sensative, but if your tanks cycled they will do fine.

I've got mine in an 85 litre (approx 23 gal) tank with neon tetras and a betta. I give them lots of hiding spots... a rock pile, driftwood covered in java moss, driftwood with a tangle of roots from an anubia, several other plants, a little shipwreck with a hollow middle.......... and the substrate is sand. They can burrow into the sand easily. No issues with the betta........ he doesn't even know the loaches are there it seems. :)

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a great setup you have :) and you answered another question I was gonna ask, any suggestions for hiding places and how many :) Also, how much have you planted your tank? I read somewhere that kuhli loaches need a heavily planted tank, but I wasn't sure if it was true or not.

I think I have 4 kuhli loach for my tank, although I only ever see three at a time if I'm lucky. I have them in a crowded 30gallon with angels, buenos aires tetras, bristlenose plecos, a red tailed shark, a flying fox, a few guppies and 2 clown loaches. I have plenty of hiding places around my tank but what the kuhli loach seem to like most, is nooks and crannys between rocks as well as these little areas where I have algae growing and a lot of waste gets caught there. I'll oftern see them tunnelling under the algae and burying their head into the gravel. I have probably your standed gravel and I havnt noticed any scratches on my loaches. although they do hide a lot, they will come out to compete with my other fish for sinking pellets, they are'nt timid and my other fish dont really hassel them at all. The other day I saw two khuli loaches together at the bottom of my tank under a plant, and sitting about 1cm above them was my female bristlenose resting on the low leaves - neither of the fish cared

I think generally any peaceful species can be kept with them, aslong as theres plenty of places for the loaches to get away from another fish if necessary - I guess just like any community tank really. Also, I havnt had problems with my small clown fish attacking them either.

they also recommend a 6.0 - 6.5 ph for kuhli's but Im keeping mine at about 7 without any problems so far :/

    Goodluck!
