dirt in prime
So today I opened my new bottle of prime.
I can't do a water change for the next few weeks for family emergencies.
So I thought I would just dose prime daily.
But when I looked inside the bottle there was dirt or black bits. obviously I didn't use it.
What is it. Should I return iti hear some people say, "i kept a goldfish in a bowl and it lived for a year."
they don't know how lucky they were and all goldfish live at least 15 years in proper conditions.
that is equal to saying my human lived in his closet for 5 years!

It is normal. Prime states that on their website. Some of the ingredients they mix in(possibly sulfur?) cause a black discoloration on the bottom of the bottle that is harmless.

I dose Prime with a syringe, so I use a small glass jar filled with some Prime to pull from, since the syringe won't reach deep enough into the bottle...there is black residue in the bottom of the glass jar, perfectly normal...

Why are you dosing daily? If you cant do a water change its generally not a big problem, unless the tank is very overstocked, ie african cichlids, or delicate fish ie discus. You can let the tank sit for a couple of weeks imo without a wc. If the tank is fully cycled i wouldnt worry about it too much. Maybe throw a bit of hornwort in there to suck up nitrates.... due to my personal emergencies over the summer some of my tanks went a month without a wc. Tho my tanks are all planted....KING OF THE GOLD BARBS RAWR!!!!
I wonder if i plant one of my tiger barbs would the demon seed grow to a full tree?
gotta love them bunnies!

Prime is safe at several times its recommended dosage (I want to say 8x but don't remember) however, I don't think I'd be dosing it daily. I would only dose it if you see ammonia readings on tests or see fish having problems.
You can overdo prime too. My cat once wiped out my neon school by knocking a half a bottle of prime over in my tank and I didn't notice it until the next day.~Manna
